‘Oli more arrogant than former kings’

Khotang, May 8

Nepali Congress leader Udaya Shamsher Rana has accused Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of surpassing even the former kings in his display of arrogance.

“Neither Mahendra Shah or his son Birendra had shown so much of braggadocio as exhibited by the present prime minister KP Sharma Oli of the federal republic of Nepal,” said the NC leader, referring to PM Oli’s speech in the Parliament yesterday.

The NC leader was speaking while inaugurating the party’s National Awareness Campaign in Khotang today.

Further, the former finance state minister also cited a number of scandals and criticised the government for its failure to bring to book persons behind the shenanigans.

“While the high-profile bullion smuggling case was kind of dismissed without hunting down the ‘big fishes’ involved, the government has protected those involved in the aircraft purchase fraud,” he said, criticising the government for awarding the Budhigandaki Hydropower project to a poorly performing Chinese company by skirting the official tender process.

Rana admitted that it was weakness on the part of his party to fail to impress the people.

“Though constitution writing and elections to the local levels happened during our government, we could not make people understand these things,” he said.

“While the communist parties easily passed bronze off as gold, we failed to take credit even for those things that happened during our tenure. The only thing that stood out among the public about NC was factionalism,” he said.
