Dhangadhi, September 21

Hundreds of children took part in a demonstration demanding justice for 13-year-old Nirmala Pant, who was raped and subsequently murdered, in Bhimdatta Municipality, in Dhangadhi today.

Hundreds of schoolchildren in uniform participated in the rally organised by Municipal Child Network Committee Dhangadi.

The rally that started from Dhangadi’s Chauraha ended at the Ministry of Social Development. Participating schoolchildren said they were forced to hit the streets as police had failed to book the guilty though two months had passed since Pant was raped and murdered. Dikshya Thapa, participant of the rally, said children feared to walk alone as incidents of rape were increasing across the country.

“To hit the streets by giving up classes is not our choice, but compulsion,” said Thapa. According to her, incidents of rape and violence are increasing in Kanchanpur and Kailali due to the government’s failure to bring the guilty to book.

Similarly, students continued another demonstration that has been continuing in Bhimdatta municipality for the past seven days.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Prasad Ojha at District Police Office, Kanchanpur, said students had been staging demonstration on a daily basis. Nirmala’s father and mother too have been participating in the demonstrations.
