Rail engine arrives in Biratnagar

Birtanagar, November 4

Test operation of a rail engine was conducted along the under-construction Biratnagar-Bathnah Railway track today.

The rail engine had arrived from India’s Bathnaha to Biratnagar customs yard for the first time.

It had taken an hour for the engine to travel five kilometres on Indian side and three kilometres on the Nepali side. Work on eight-kilometre stretch of the railway track on the Nepali and Indian sides is in the final stage.

Assistant General Manager Nagendra Kumar of the construction company IRCON said preparations were on to complete the work on eight-kilometre stretch in one-and-a-half months.

The distance from India’s Bathnaha to Katahari Rural Municipality through Biratnagar is 18.1 kilometres.

Biratnagar Railway Project Chief Ashwini Kumar said it had taken time to complete the work due to land compensation dispute on the Nepali side. Ashwini said they would resume the work after the land was handed over to them for railway construction and finish the work within 18 months.
