Kathmandu receives 14.3 mm rainfall

Kathmandu, January 23

The Meteorological Forecasting Division said many parts of the county received light to moderate rainfall today.

The rainfall during the winter chill has been attributed to western disturbances. Kathmandu Valley recorded 14.3 mm rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 5:45pm. The amount is close to normal rainfall (14.4 mm) for the month of January.

Lumle had the highest rainfall of 16 mm, according to the MFD. Despite rainfall, the minimum temperature recorded in the valley today was 8.1 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s five degrees Celsius.  With the rainfall,  Phulchowki and Chandragiri received brief snowfall.

Meanwhile, the MFD has predicted that the ongoing spell of rain was likely to last in some parts of the country till Friday. According to a three-day weather forecast, some places of the eastern and central regions, including the valley, will receive light rain tonight as well.

Some parts, mainly the hilly regions, are predicted to witness partly to generally cloudy skies with chances of light rainfall in some places tomorrow. Similarly, the MFD has forecast light to moderate rain in parts of the western, central and eastern regions on Friday.
