Ramechhap, April 20
A brief spell of rainfall accompanied by hailstone late this afternoon destroyed crops in Ramechhap’s Umakunda Rural Municipality.
Crops cultivated in wards 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Umakunda Rural Municipality were destroyed by the sudden precipitation that lasted for around 15 minutes. “The crops were meant to feed us round the year, but the rain destroyed them all,” said Hiralal Shrestha of Gupteshwor, Umakunda, adding, ‘Crops such as potatoes, wheat, maize and barley besides fruit plants in blossom bore the brunt of the freak weather.”
Another farmer from the same place Kisanchand Bahadur Sunuwar also rued the damage. “The farmers, who have been frequently tormented by natural disaster became victims this time again,” Sunuwar said.
