KATHMANDU: Celebrations of Ubhauli Parva has begun in the country today by the Kirat community, an ethnic group originally belonging to the eastern Himalayan region.
The full moon day today marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of the Kirati festival, the major attribute of which is to worship nature.

Kirati community, known to be devoted to the nature, celebrate Ubhauli Parva by worshipping the land and performing a traditional dance called Sakela Chandi Naach.
The festival is celebrated for good harvest, peace and prosperity in the community.
Ubhauli Parva is marked for a month from Baishakh Shukla Purnima of the lunar calendar, which coincides with Buddha Jayanti, the day Buddha was born.
