He had gone to the bride’s house identifying his wife as sister and son as nephew
Rautahat, May 7
A married man, who was all geared up for a second marriage by hiding his marital status has landed in soup in Rautahat, along with his accomplices.
Thirty-five-year-old Bir Bahadur Syangtan, of Melamchi Municipality, Sindhupalchowk, along with his son, wife and sister, whom he falsely identified as his sisters and nephew, was detained by locals before they were handed over to the police.
Police have yet to reveal the names of the other three arrested, citing its impact on investigation.
According to Inspector Rajan Thapa of Chandrapur Area Police Office, Syangtan, a migrant worker based in Saudi Arabia, had come home about three months ago.
“According to what we’ve learnt so far, he (Bir Bahadur) had met a girl by the second name of Lama of Chandrapur on Facebook while he was still in Saudi. Over the years, their friendship deepened and turned into love.
Lately, after he came home, he went to the girl’s home and fixed the marriage between him and the girl for yesterday,” said the inspector.
After the marriage was fixed, the girl’s family had made every bit of preparation and waited for the groom to turn up yesterday morning as scheduled. But to their surprise, he showed up at night, that too only with three other people, whom he falsely identified as his sisters and nephew.
“The bride’s family became doubtful when the would-be groom came to marry the girl with only three other persons. Then the girl’s family, with the help of locals, detained them and shut them up in a room and informed us the following morning,” said the inspector.
“Though it has been revealed during interrogation that the three persons he had brought along him were actually his son, wife and a sister, he has said nothing as to why he had to opt for another marriage,” said the inspector, adding they were coordinating with the police in Sindhupalchowk to investigate the incident.
Meanwhile, the locals have suspected that the man who was aspiring for a second marriage could be an agent of human traffickers.
They have sought action against him and the other three accompanying him.
